You are invited to an open course where you will get a comprehensive overview of the religious understanding of Estonian people, their attitudes and beliefs concerning religion and other areas of life.

The language of instruction is Estonian with translation into English and Russian.
OBJECTIVES
The course provides a brief overview of sociological research methods of religion. These are used to examine the religious views, beliefs and practices of Estonians from different perspectives.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of the course, the attendant.
- knows what sociology of religion, and its areas of research.
- knows the basic research methods and data sources used to study the religious situation in Estonia.
- has an overview of the religious situation in Estonia, contemporary religious trends, the religious attitudes of the population and understands the background to their formation.
- understands the motives for joining Christian congregations and their theoretical explanations.
- has an overview of people's expectations of the social role of the church in the Estonian society and their expectations of their own congregation.

CONTENT
- How can we scientifically investigate the religious beliefs of Estonians?
- Are Estonians truly the world's least religious people?
- Does church membership influence Estonians' moral attitudes and to what extent?
- How do those who do not belong to a congregation view the role of the church in society?
- What do church members expect of services?
